'Cause that's the
way it is', says Grandma to her little one, who's full
of questions and curiosities. Wide eyed and affectionate,
little Ammu is engagingly inquisitive - how long will
you live Grandma, where are all your friends now and
suchlike.
Questions that light up the ageing woman's days in the
countryside amidst maids and workmen. But more often,
Grandma is wistful, reflective, dwelling on life's little
ironies - her daughter's passing away, Ammu's unfortunate
upbringing in the city and the bleakness of advancing
age. |
