| You wouldn’t
miss me. I’d be waiting interminably at one of
the many crowded bus stops in the city. Just another
guy in the crowd, lost in the comings and goings at
office hour...”
Thus the film opens to the weary voiceover of Sreedharan,
a middling clerk at the government office in town. Life
in the big city is not easy, as he struggles to make
ends meet on a meagre salary. As another month nears
its end and pay packets are handed out, it is time for
the familiar juggling of accounts – money for
rent, groceries, eating out, and a little something
for the old ‘un back home. He lives in a modest
lodging overlooking the busy city railway station. The
aspirations and amusements of his mates at the lodge
provide a wistful vignette of life in the city. |
