Words can't ever express the beautiful complexity
of 8 1/2. It is one of the few films that transcend
the art of Cinema. Every time I watch it I discover
something new. Every time it ends I am left in awe
of Fellini's ability to express ideas and feelings
that one would think couldn't be expressed on film.
There is so much beneath the surface of this
movie. But it is not simply Fellini's transformation
as a director (from neo-realism to surrealism
or "Felliniesque")but also a transformation
as a person. As a man. The transformation spurs
from an issue that we all must deal with: the
ongoing conflict that results from trying to please
ourselves and also please the one's we love. It
sounds simple but we all know it's not
